Robert Nesta Marley Jamaica greatest musician of all time was born in the parish of St. Ann, Jamaica on 6th day of February 1945. His mother Candella Malcom and father Captain Norval Marley, who was attached to the British regiment were married but separated when family pressure regarding the marriage force them a part.
Bob Marley also called the 'The King of Reggae' grew up in trench town,a inner city community in Jamaica and started is musical journey at the age of 16. While growing up and showing interest in his music he made friends with Neville livingston also know as Bunny wailer and shortly after he met Peter tosh. Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Junior Braithwaite, Beverly Kelso and Cherry Smith stared the group- Wailing Wailers in 1963 and they produce hit such as 'Simmer down'. Cherry and Braithwaite left the group but however the remaining members produce hits like "One Love", "Rudie" and "I'm still waiting".
During this hit making period Bob met Rita Anderson and they got married in 1966, he later migrated to the USA where he spent almost a year before he came back to Jamaica. On his return Marley and the other members rename the group to The wailers and they made some wonderful hits such as 'Small Axe, 'Duppy Conqueror', 'I Shot the Sheriff, 'No Woman No Cry,'Get Up Stand Up', and 'Lively up yourself'.
The group made international strides when they sign a contract with Island Records owned by a white Jamaican in London called Chris Blackwell. Under Blackwell Guidance the group release albums such as "Concrete Jungle', 'Catch a Fire', ' Stir it Up', and the final album released before the group decided to go on their own musical ventures was 'Burning'.
Bob team up with his wife, Rita, Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt and the group was name Bob Marley and the Wailers. The group was tremendous they 'wow' the international and local markets. They release chat topping album such as; 'live', 'Natty Dread', 'Rastaman Vibration', 'Babylon by bus', 'Exodus','Survival', and 'Kaya'. These albums where exceptional and loved all over the world, they also released 'Uprising' and three other albums namely; 'Confrontation', 'Talking Blues' and 'Legend' where released after is death.
Robert Nesta Marley used music to break a lot of racial and social barriers. His music inspires many and that is why he is the King of reggae.

This paper explores and explains cloud computing in depth, giving varying definitions and comparing it with other services. The conditions under which private or public cloud computing should be adopt is also explained, similar concepts of cloud computing are outlined, the impact of cloud computing on security and a brief description of cloud computing sustainability to businesses is described. The paper seeks to bring clarity and understanding of the new and evolving way of computing with the use authors opinions and illustrative diagrams.

The Definition of Cloud Computing and its Characteristics
Cloud computing is a newly hyped-up term among Information Technology vendors, with its unique characteristics that enables a significant workload shift, user computers are relieved of a vast amount of tasks. This new and evolving way of computing promote the use of remote, centralized, cloud-base facilities. According to Rafeq ( 2011)“The ‘cloud’ in cloud computing is defined as the set of hardware, networks, storage, services, and interfaces that combine to deliver aspects of computing as a Service” ( p.103). The cloud system can be divided into two parts; the front end, which comprises of the user or client computers and interface which enables access to the cloud and the back end. The back end, which is term as the cloud consist of the various servers, storage, hardware connected over a network. The IEEE computing society (2006) briefly explains cloud computing, outlining that:
Cloud computing is the ability to access a pool of computing resources owned and maintained by a third party via the Internet. It isn’t a new technology but a new way of delivering computing resources based on long existing technologies such as server virtualization. (p.6)
With this type of service users are only required to be able to access the cloud, server computers own by a separate company takes care of the running applications, email services, word processing, and other rigorous data analysis. An example of cloud computing in action is demonstrated by web based email service providers such as Yahoo and Gmail which uses cloud computing to store software and users emails. The maintenance of the resources which provide this service is the responsibility of yahoo or g-mail and users are just required to login through the internet with a device.
Cloud computing is a great improvement in computer technology, with a variety of defining characteristics that makes it above the rest. Some of these characteristics are: on-demand self service, broad network access, rapid elasticity, resource pooling and measured service. On-demand self service according to (Oracle Cloud Computing, May 2010) is explained as “Users being able to monitor and manage computing resources as needed without the help of human administrators” (p.3). This feature promotes less interaction between servers and users, since users are able to maneuver resources on their own.
Another characteristics is broad network access, this entails service been transmitted over a standard network and different devices such as laptops, mobile phones and tablets. Oracle cloud computing (May 2010) also pointed out that the rapid elasticity capability of cloud computing is the ability to scale resources both up and down as needed. To the consumer, the cloud appears to be infinite, and the consumer can purchase as much or as little computing power as they need (p.3). On the other hand, resource pooling is whereby the service provider put together a group of resources to work together to meet users needs. This explained in detail by the National Institute of Standard Technology (September 2011), where they stated that
The provider’s computing resources are pooled to serve multiple consumers
using a multi-tenant model, with different physical and virtual resources dynamically
assigned and reassigned according to consumer demand. There is a sense of location
independence in that the customer generally has no control or knowledge over the exact
location of the provided resources but may be able to specify location at a higher level of
The final characteristics that was identify above, measured service, is basically the cloud system being closely monitored and service use by users is measured and the appropriate charges are presented to consumers.
Overall, cloud computing reduces spending, increases start-up speed and allows flexibility. It however faces security concerns.
Conditions under which private or public cloud computing should be adopt
Private cloud (also called internal cloud or corporate cloud) is a marketing term for a proprietary computing architecture that provides hosted services to a limited number of people behind a firewall. Advances in virtualization and distributed computing have allowed corporate network and datacenter administrators to effectively become service providers that meet the needs of their "customers" within the corporation. Marketing media that uses the words "private cloud" is designed to appeal to an organization that needs or wants more control over their data than they can get by using a third-party hosted service such as Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud or Simple Storage Service.
Private cloud computing can also be adopted when business owners and application owners use the corporate IT as a standard infrastructure on the request of new business service, not knowing how complex it is at the time.
A public cloud is one based on the standard cloud computing model, in which a service provider makes resources, such as applications and storage, available to the general public over the Internet. Public cloud services may be free or offered on a pay-per-usage model.
The main benefits of using a public cloud service are:
Easy and inexpensive set-up because hardware, application and bandwidth costs are covered by the provider.
Scalability to meet needs.
No wasted resources because you pay for what you use.
The term "public cloud" arose to differentiate between the standard model and the private cloud, which is a proprietary network or data center that uses cloud computing technologies, such as virtualization. A private cloud is managed by the organization it serves. A third model, the hybrid cloud is maintained by both internal and external providers. Examples of public clouds include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), IBM's Blue Cloud, Sun Cloud, Google App Engine and Windows Azure Services Platform.
Similar concepts to cloud computing
As previously defined, Cloud Computing is the use of computing services and capabilities that are delivered over a network, typically the Internet. Computers in the cloud are configured to work together to provide access to the various applications offered by the cloud. It is called Cloud Computing because of the cloud-shaped symbol that is used to represent the system diagram (wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_computing, 2012).

The central concept of Cloud Computing is that a user can access files and perform computer-related tasks anywhere via a network or the Internet without installing a programme on their physical device. All that is required is a computer or a media consumption device such as an ipad® or Blackberry Playbook®, an operating system, an Internet connection and a compatible web browser (Thurana, 2008). Based on our research there are seven concepts or systems that are similar to Cloud Computing (wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_computing, 2012), however, we will be focusing on the two listed below:
1. Client Server
Client-server architecture allows the resources of a system, to be distributed among several individual computers. These individual computers are accessed only through a network.
Client-server systems are constructed so that the resource that is to be accessed can reside on a central computer, known as a server, and is shared among several users. Users access the server through a client or server application.
A client-server system can be two-tiered or multi-tiered. In a two-tier client-server system, users run an application on their local computer, known as a client that connects over a network to the Server. The client application runs both business logic and the code to display output to the user, and is also known as a thick client (Technet.microsoft.com: Library: Chap 7 Client/Server Architecture ). Conversely, in a multi-tiered client-server system, the client application logic is run in two locations:
1. The thin client is run on the user's local computer and is focused on displaying results to the user.
2. The business logic is located in server applications running on a server.
Thin clients request functions from the server application, which is itself a multithreaded application capable of working with many concurrent users. The server application is the one that opens connections to the resource being accessed and can be running on the same server/computer as the resource, or it can connect across the network to a separate server/computer. This is a typical scenario for an Internet application, which connects millions of users to the Internet.
The client-server system enables sharing of resources across a large pool of users as it allows many users to use a single resource which is similar to the multi-tenancy characteristic of cloud computing. It also allows for the ease of maintenance of resources/applications as applications only has to be changed on the server that host the resources/applications. Additionally, tasks such as backing up and restoring data are simplified because they can focus on the central server.

Mainframes allow multiple users to share both the physical access to the computer from multiple terminals as well as to share the CPU time and is similar to the multi-tenancy concept used by cloud computing to make available to a large number of users the resources of the main frame (DHRITIMAN, 2008).
Mainframes also run multiple different instances of operating systems at the same time thereby operating not as a single computer but as a number of virtual machines. This technique of virtual machines allows applications to run as if they were on physically distinct computer.
This virtualization technique is used by cloud computing to allow servers and storage devices to be shared giving users the impression that they have full control over the resource that is being accessed.
Users gain access through specialized terminals or from personal computers equipped with terminal emulation software which is similar to cloud computing which uses a browser mainly to access the cloud’s resources. Applications/resources only have to be changed on the mainframe that hosts the resources/applications. Additionally, tasks such as backing up and restoring data are simplified because they can focus on the central mainframe.
The impacts of Cloud Computing on Computer security
In todays world more IT professionals are using cloud computing to protect their fims computer system. Instead of running anti-virus products on their own network, companies are buying security layers from cloud computing specialists. These would be security specialists like Kasperksy Lab and AVE.
When we think of the straight forward attacks on organizations security systems, they have to be one step ahead in the ever-evolving maleware engines. In terms of an organization risk can be mitigated, transferred or accepted. Calculating risk usually invloves.
· Calculating the value of asset
· Giving it a weight of importance in order to priortiaze its ranking for analysis
· Conducting an impact analysis
· Determine its associated risk
In terms of cloud computing security, the main point is that there is an infrastructure somewhere that supports and provide cloud computing services for each organization that uses it because each company has different structures and different needs in terms of security for their network system. According to a study done by “P. McFedries (2008)”, companies have seen and 18% reduction reduction in their IT budget from cloud compurting securtiy and a 16% reduction in data center power cost.
This shows the infrastructure set up by cloud computing providers for organizations securing their network system. Different organizations has different infrastructure settings to suit it but same modifications.
Benefits Organizations get from having cloud computing
Centralized Data – Small, temporary caches on handheld devices or notebook computers pose less risk than transporting data buckets in the form of laptops.
Incident Response/Forensics – If there is multiple incident responders, a copy of the VM can be given so that distribution of forensic workload based on the job at hand or as new sources of evidence arise and need analysis. This also decrease evidence transfer time and eliminate or reduce service downtime.
Password Assurance Testing – Decrease password cracking time and keep cracking activities to dedicated machines.
Improve State of Security Software – Process accounting will make a comeback as customers target expensive processes. A security vendor that does understand the performance their software will win.
Secure Builds – This can create gold image VM and clone away.
Cloud computing has many advantages for different organizations and in this changing world where technology is advancing at rapid paste companies often look to see how best to secure valuable data and from viruses as well. There will be times when issues may arise and software trouble but as “Craig Bald founder of Cloud Computing says all questions were answered for concerns that may arise with the cloud software for security concerns”. The only thing he won’t be able to prevent is if there is a crime and investigators need all data available to them to solve crimes.
The sustainability of cloud computing to business
Cloud computing has helped to sustain small to medium businesses, they only have to pay for the services they need from cloud computing. It helps to lower cost and fits with the budget the company is working with. Small businesses get more services from cloud computing and they get a dedicated server. Companies used cloud computing to help sustain a clean environment where their data sharing to external customers or otherwise are concern, saying their data centers are “green” says Richard Baillie writer for his blog cloud computing. Energy saving is also part of the business connection with cloud computing and getting to use less power to sustain a software to run any company.
Thomas S. (2012) explains that “Cloud computing offers many operational benefits to companies of all sizes, while at the same time providing them with a more sustainable, ecologically-friendly alternative to traditional IT infrastructure.” This is so because, when businesses use the cloud system, fewer physical components are required hence reducing the amount of energy use and also reducing carbon emission. Reducing the energy use is a key factor in business growth, high power driven hardware can cost a lot to operate. Carbon emission is not healthy for the environment and there cloud computing is environmental friendly.
In concluding, cloud computing provides greater flexibility, faster page loading and plays an important role in business sustainability

The History of Science and Technology
Science and Technology was not link together in the early stages of human existence. Science based industries came about in the 1800’s using chemical and electrical power equipment. Historically, industrial research labs originated in Germany in the 1870s and in the 1900 there were a number of such labs introduce to the USA.
But Science can be traced back to prehistoric time when the Mesopotamian were in existence around 4000 BC, their knowledge of science was shown in lists of astronomical observations, chemical substance and disease symptoms, as well mathematical tables were created on clay tablets. Evident of science was also discovered in Africa when papyri were found containing information on the treatment of wounds and diseases; furthermore, mathematical calculations were also found inscribe on these writing material. Some of these mathematical units are still being used in today’s society. An important person to the development of science from ancient days until now is Imhotep , according to Dunn “The world's first named architect who built Egypt's first pyramid, is often recognized as the world's first doctor, a priest, scribe, sage, poet, astrologer, and a vizier and chief minister”( about Egyptian pyramids,1996-2013).
Scientific theories began to rise 600 BC-200 AD when Greek scholar, Thales proposed that natural occurrences must have been brought about by basic reasons that can be justified instead of blaming it on gods and beliefs. Another significant individual was man Pythagoras, a mathematician and philosopher who sought to prove that mathematics is fundamental to all scientific research. Hippocrates, a physician was living during Pythagoras time and he tried to find natural causes for disease instead of supernatural ones, and he did this through rigorous and careful observations. In addition, two scholars, Plato and Aristotle combine the Ionian natural philosophy and Pythagorean mathematical science which lead to great advancement in logic around 400 BC.
Science took another step forward in the middle ages (between 450-1450 AD) when the Dogon people of West Africa discovered the Sirius star system. Many other bodies of people started to promote science based inventories such as groups in Central and South America who made effective irrigation systems. The Chinese made impressive strides in there mathematical knowledge, and paper and gun powder were being manufactured. The Hindu made their contribution by creating the Hindu system of numerals around 300 BC. Their work was furthered by mathematician Al-kwarizmi, who came up with the number system that we now use today. Although the development of science was not going very fast in this period there were still some important advancement in technology such the making of clocks, glass, paper, iron making, gun powder and the compass.
In the period 1450-1600 AD Europe made significant steps to acquire more knowledge, an important person to this movement was Leonardo da Vinvi. He was an artist, architect, engineer, philosopher and scientist who insist on the need for experiment in order to draw conclusion. In this period they were a number of geographical findings; Prince Henry the navigator travelled around South African and landed in India, and around this time Christopher Columbus reaches the Americas. Shortly after Columbus one of Magellan’s ship travelled around the world and a conclusion was drawn saying that the earth is round. In the year 1543 Copernicus and Tycho Brahe based on research insist that the earth and planets revolved around the sun, a revelation that opposed the ideas of Ptolemy. Also in that same year Vesalius publish a book on the anatomy of the human body leading to the discovery of the blood circulation system.
After an era forming the basis of science and technology scholars began go more in depth into experiments and draw more logical conclusions. Galileo, in the 1600s AD developed the telescope which was used to provide accurate astronomical observations. Newton, a well-know man combined kepler’s astronomy and Galileo’s terrestrial mechanics brought about the universal law of gravitation in 1687. His laws of dynamics are still being thought today; also, along with Leibniz he invented calculus setting the foundation for our sophisticated mathematical science today. In 1859 Darwin proposed his heliocentric views which many opposed, shortly after Einstein proved that matter was not just made of sub-atomic particles alone but also waves, force fields and even statistical inference. Another major discovery was the DNA by Crick and Watson in 1953.
One small country in which the development of technology have been fascinating is Jamaica. The Hammock was invented by Tainos in Jamaica and it became popular in of Europe and then other parts of the world. When Chistopher Columbus came to Jamaica there were a number of impressive technology that were already invented such as the canoes, gold mining techniques and a viable agricultural system. Seven (7) years after the steam power was first used in Britain John Stewart, a craftsman invented a steam-driven engine and was install and used on a plantation in St Andrew. ‘Printing began in Jamaica by 1718 and by 1834 over 100 books, 56 pamphlets, 11 magazines, 39 almanacs and 30 newspaper had been published’ (science and technology). Jamaica law about county and parish was establish after Robertson carried out a in depth survey and produce a map of the island in1804. Surprisingly, the parish of Falmouth had pipe water in homes before certain places in New York, and Black River had electricity around 1893 far before most of the US. The telephone was introduced to Jamaica in 1878 and by 2002 the island had one of the best telephone systems in the world. The first iron bridge was made in Pennsylvania in 1801 and within that same year a iron bridge was made in Jamaica. Also, Jamaica had the first rail way service outside of the USA and Europe. The Island scholars work hard in improving technology and science a few of them are; Thomas lecky who develop the Jamaica hope, a breed of cattle that can survive tropical conditions. Professor Manley West and Dr Lockhart develop a treatment for glaucoma. Professor Gerald lalor efforts lead to the opening of a research nuclear reactor at UWI. “In 1997, Dr, Paula Tennant became the first person in the Caribbean to produce a bio-engineered product, a transgenic strain of papaya” (science and technology).
Science and technology is the framework of human existence and as time passes technologies become more advance and the reliance on machines increase.
Reflection on My English course
English has always been a challenge for me. While doing this course, I realize that it does not require a master mind to understand how to effectively use the English language, but if one does not understand the fundamental or basic rules of the language they will have difficulties in using it. The course had led me to explore the language a bit more and even though I have not fully mastered it, I am now able to approach certain topics in English with confidence. In Mathematics you cannot add unlike terms; while in English you cannot have the subject and the verb not agreeing in the sentence. I use the mathematics comparison because I am mathematics major, and while doing this course I saw where I can link the two to better understand how the language works.
Overall, the tutor did an excellent job of explaining each topic in detail. I must say the way how she delivered each lecture and tutorial was effective, because majority of the students stayed for each three hour class weekly, and that was exceptional.
Lastly, I have benefited from this course and in a number of ways. It has showed me how to improve my writing and how to reason at the highest level; and as such, I am thankful for it.

JAMAICAN singer Tessanne Chin blew away the four celebrity coaches on America's top vocal competition show, The Voice, with a powerful rendition of US singer Pink's hit song Try.
The audience at the blind audition show, aired last night on NBC, erupted in wild cheers and applause when coach Christina Aguilera hit her power button to turn her chair around, signalling her interest in having Chin on her team, approximately five seconds after she started singing.

The audience erupted again when fellow coaches CeeLo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton turned their chairs around before Chin had even finished the first verse of the song.
At the end of her performance, Chin was praised by the coaches, all of whom are top musicians.
"You could easily win The Voice this year, I don't have a doubt in my mind," said Levine, the lead singer of pop rock band Maroon 5.
Shelton, a country music singer, in his bid to woo Chin to join his team of competitors, said: "I won't lie to you like Adam and tell you you could easily win... it's very hard to win this. It takes a lot of hard work, but you're so far ahead of the game."
Blake then asked Chin if she has been "singing for a long time".
She replied: "Yes sir, that's my bread and butter back home."
Levine, obviously fascinated by Chin's Jamaican accent, asked her to say bread and butter one more time. She obliged, giving him great pleasure.
"My favourite music comes from where you're from," he told her.
"True?" Chin responded.
"Yeah. Reggae music is the greatest thing in the world to me," he said, eliciting a "Thank you, that's a big honour," from Chin.
Levine, obviously burning to have Chin join his team, told her: "I would have made the mistake of a lifetime to not turn around for this. You got something crazy special. I want it, I want it so bad."
Aguilera, in her attempt to get Chin on her team, told the Jamaican: "We're all pretty desperate to have you on our team... What I'm getting from you is just so much passion and so much heart for what you do, and you're such a powerhouse and unbelievably talented vocalist; but you have such a kind, warm sense about you and I just want to be given a chance to bond with you, work with you and help you in any way that I can."
Blake, in his sales pitch, told Chin that he was fascinated by her.
However, when he asked her who she would pick as her coach, Chin chose Levine.
"I'm a fan of music, period," she said, "and I just want to be the best vocalist, and I'm very interested in learning how I can better evolve, and for me I think I'm gonna go with Adam."
Her choice, of course, had Levine celebrating. "I'm madly in love with her as a singer. I did not expect to win the battle for Tessanne, but man, I'm very happy," he said.
Chin, in her post-audition interview, said "I tried to just give a good show, but when I saw those chairs turn, boy, I had to remain in the show, and not go oohh."
Last night, after watching the recorded show with her family and friends here in Kingston, Chin tweeted: "Just wanna say a huge thank you for all the love and support I am truly overwhelmed!!!! Words fail me."
NBC explains on its website that during the blind auditions the coaches sit in rotating chairs with their backs turned to the stage. Their decisions are therefore based solely on the performer's voice.
If a coach is impressed by the artiste's voice, the coach pushes a button to select the artiste for his/her team. "At this point, the coach's chair will swivel so that he/she can face the artiste. If more than one coach pushes his/her button, the power then shifts to the artiste to choose which coach the artiste wants to work with. If no coach pushes his/her button, the artiste is eliminated from the competition."
